Please do not worry if you are unsure of any Science or Engineering knowledge. Science and Engineering is about questioning, investigating, designing, building, evaluating and thinking. However, if you wish to brush up on your own knowledge then BBC Bitesize is a good starting point.
You could try watching these STEM TV programmes: Invent the impossible, Robot Wars, Nina and the Neurons, Blue Planet 2, Operation Ouch, Deadly 60 or Planet Earth.
Visit Science and Discovery Centres. There are many great places to visit, including planetariums, wildlife centres, energy farms and museums.
Buy a STEM kit, microscope, electricity kit, marble run, or construction kit and ask questions. Rather than ask simple 'yes or no' questions, try asking open ended questions such as, 'why do you think this happened?'.
Carry out Science experiments at home. Try visiting Experimental from the Royal Institute or the Royal Society of Chemistry for some good ideas. The Kitchen Pantry Scientist also has great ideas for experiments using household kitchen items. Don't worry if an experiment does not work. Science is about experimenting, having fun, and looking closely at the world!
Keep up to date with current Science, Engineering and STEM news and events. Children's newspapers usually have a Science page such as, First News or The Week Junior. Alternatively, visit websites such as Twig Science Reporter, a topical free Science resource with videos and fact packs. You could subscribe to Whizz Pop Bang, a great Science magazine aimed at 7-11 year olds. Subscribe to How it works, a great STEM magazine for 7-11 year olds. Lastly, subscribe to National Geographic for kids.
Subscribe to Curiosity Box a subscription to a box of Science experiments delivered to your home with a set of instructions. Alternatively, subsribe to MEL Science, a similarly themed company.
Join a club such as Bright Sparks, an Oxfordshire based company that run holiday clubs and birthday parties. Alternatively, Science Oxford run regular events and have a Saturday club.
Spend some time gardening or growing vegetables.
Use an animation kit to create video clips.
